Watermaker
Watermaker troubleshooting:
These hints and tips were provided to us by Shipshop.de and proved very helpful:
The raw water pump must produce around 300L/h with 5-6bar pressure. You
should not be able to stop the water flowing off the hose by pressing
your thumb on the outlet of the hose. Please change pump head against a
new one if in doubt. I have tested with the old one but that pump heads
are very sensitive and can worn out in seconds if not bleeded with water.
For working propper it needs at least >12.5V on the pump connectors and
draws around 8-12 Amps depending on the installation.
Please check very thoroughly all the hoses and connectors – are they
free without hard bendings ? All valves ok and allowing free flow ?
Seewater Intake clean, Prefilters clean ?
Then, outlets all free ? Seawater and production (drinkiing) water ?
Please note when the pump is not situated on or better under the
waterline it cannot work very good, it is a pressure pump not a sucking
one. Also very long hoses and a >50cm difference in height between pump
and watermaker and watermaker and outlets will affect the working (but
not down to 50%).
Most tricky thing, have heard often of that causing problems. The
complete system must be free of air bubbles. If the bleeding procedure
does not help and you will hear streaming noises all the time the
hydraulic system removes you have to lift the watermaker on the left
side (opposite the manometre) up to more then 45° while working and redo
the bleeding procedure.
Hint: When the watermaker is running a while and you then open the
bleeding valve – does it then give some air bubbles out of the waste
water outlet ? This is a sign that the hydraulic system is not free of air.
With drinking water the pressure is around 15bar, with sea water in the
Med it should be around 40bar. More then 50bar needs a cleaning cycle
with the membarne cleaning solution.
